The Opportunity 
The Vice President, Brand Marketing will report to the Chief Commercial Officer (“CCO”) and serve as a key partner to the senior Commercial executive team. The successful candidate must embrace industry leading perspectives on brand and marketing strategies, have a revenue-focused mindset, and be able to balance the art and science of building a compelling brand within the skincare industry.
 
The VP will oversee the development and execution of the marketing strategy and all aspects of the
company’s marketing initiatives, including brand image, brand marketing, brand engagement - social media, public relations, influencer as well as brand creative. This leader will develop and implement integrated communication strategies, campaigns, and programs to fulfill brand and sales objectives. The ideal candidate will create and deliver fully-integrated programs across marketing, digital, communications, and public relations to ensure maximum impact, efficiency, and alignment across all company functions.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Define the strategy for the Rodan + Fields brand as it continues to transition from its MLM foundation into retail and D2C.
  • Spearheading best-in-class premium brand building and “storytelling” (marketing) efforts, in order to dramatically increase brand awareness, consumer engagement and generate business growth.
  • Generating awareness and differentiation of R+F by creating a compelling, premium brand narrative that builds on the existing foundation of the brand.
  • Working closely with the internal Innovation & Operations teams to develop a strategic roadmap of new product launches to continue to build the equity of R+F and strengthen competitive positioning in the broader marketplace.
  • Driving strategy of top-of-funnel marketing media, including, but not limited to, out-of-home, video, and influencers (in close partnership with the VP D2C/Growth).
  • Applying both analytic diligence and consumer behavior intuition to identify unique, compelling opportunities to put the brand and product stories in front of new audiences
  • Establishing strategic partnerships and collaborations while developing word-of-mouth opportunities to increase brand awareness and build brand equity across all channels of distribution.
  • Ability to build a multi-channel marketing approach grounded in shopper dynamics, while keeping the consumer at the core
  • In collaboration with Product Development and R&D, ensure all products, new and existing, contain technology that produces safe, effective, and demonstrably superior product profiles.
  • Elevates R+F’s profile through award-winning and buzzworthy work and thought leadership.
  • Directly and indirectly manages a team of employees, consultants, contractors, freelancers and third-party agency partners. Leads product gates and oversees the successful and timely execution of product calendars and milestones in accordance with product development calendar for all new innovations
  • Helps identify, on-board, and partner with external agencies and resources to deliver elevated, on-strategy creative work while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Defines and executes best organizational structures to support expansion and scale, including outsourced vs insourced resources and flexible work pods to address the work efficiently and effectively. 
 
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; an MBA or equivalent experience is desirable.
  • 15+ years of full-stack marketing and senior leadership experience, ideally in prestige skincare
  • Best-in-class brand builder and storyteller; proven success developing and elevating brands and a track record of dramatically increasing brand engagement and generating business growth.
  • Has deep skincare category expertise and understands the nuances of the beauty market and how it has been evolving with changes in overall consumer behavior.
  • Proven track record of P&L management with known financial acumen and analytical rigor.
  • Highly analytical; able to make data-driven decisions and establish effective metrics to approach marketing strategy and spend while not losing sight of the brand.
  • Structured thinker with ability to execute through a lens of ROI (returns on time and capital).
  • Excellent cross-functional manager, mentor, and leader who is entrepreneurial and excels at both high-level thinking and execution and is effective at managing change in a fast-moving and constantly evolving business.
  • Possesses a progressive mindset and approach and believes passionately in consumer centricity 
  • Strong executive presence with ability to work with senior management, external partners, and collaborators
  • Excels at people management, inspiring the team to deliver great work, developing meaningful career pathing, and mentoring and coaching along the way.
